This Fall, Team Hasbro – our best-in-class employee volunteer program – had the opportunity to renovate a sacred space at Eastview Public School in Scarborough, Ontario. The Eastview community has a significant Indigenous population, and Eastview Public School welcomes a diverse population of students from all areas of Canada and the world. The newly renovated Ojibwe Room is a sacred space at the school for students and teachers to learn, engage with each other and celebrate their cultures.
“In order for children to learn or feel comfortable in the classroom, their culture has to be represented,” said Nazanni Bell-Redbird, teacher at Eastview Public School. “When children come in and they see that they are valued and their heritage and their culture is important, it gives them a sense of pride in themselves.”
“Giving back isn’t just something we do at Hasbro, it’s part of who we are, and it is the core to our culture,” said Marisa Pedatella, Team Hasbro Canada. “When we met with Eastview Public School, we really felt a connection to their staff and students. We felt that we could really help them and bring some joy to these communities and these children and their families.”
