Hasbro Children’s Hospital is the pediatric division of Rhode Island Hospital and opened in 1994. Located near our global headquarters in Rhode Island, we are proud to support the great work performed at Hasbro Children’s Hospital. Annually, Hasbro, Inc. supports the Child Life services program at the hospital as well as its annual fundraising ball. We also supply the hospital with toys and games for distribution and use by the hospitalized children.
Hasbro’s support has also brought some fun and innovative programs to hospital such the GetWellNetwork and the Big Apple Circus.
The GetWellNetwork, designed to connect and engage a patient and his or her parents to their care during their stay, is easy to use and accessible on a 22-inch touch-screen television in each patient room. Functionality is the same for each patient, but the content differs depending on a patient’s needs. The content includes expert patient education, movies, internet use, patient surveys and interactive games. In support of Hasbro Children’s Hospital’s commitment to provide family-centered care, the GetWellNetwork not only allows for on-demand access to content by patients, but also allows a patient’s doctors and nurses to deliver content to a patient’s bedside using functions such as a “Question of the Day,” educational programs specific to managing a child’s diagnosis, or the Discharge Pathway program that helps guide families through discharge. These features allow caregivers to obtain insight and support their primary mission of providing top-quality care to their patients.
Hasbro, through the Hasbro Children’s Fund, works with the Big Apple Circus to bring its Clown Care program to Hasbro Children’s Hospital. Clown Care brings laughter to the bedsides of hospitalized children in preeminent pediatric facilities nationwide. Its primary goals are to bring the joy of the circus ring into the hospital, and treat the healthy aspects of the child by incorporating humor as an essential element in the standard of care. Working one-on-one with hospitalized children - in partnership with their families, caregivers, and hospital personnel - these professional performers help ease the stress of serious illness and hospitalization by reintroducing laughter and fun as innate parts of life.
Hasbro’s partnership brings two Clown Doctors to Hasbro Children’s Hospital once a week. They work with the Child Life staff bringing laughter to children and their families throughout the hospital - including the emergency room, clinics, and bedsides. A child life specialist tells about the positive impact the program has had on patients in this video produced by the Hospital.
